Warning! Boring wall o' text within!

I first "discovered" Shoko Suzuki back in 2004, when a friend gave me a copy of Puffy's Fever*Fever (I already owned solosolo and Nice., but didn't pay attention to the song credits on those until later). Very quickly the song "Koi no Line Ai no Shape" became a favorite; upon checking the CD credits, I noticed person who wrote the song also sang and played drums on the track. Intrigued, I made a mental note to find out more about that person: Shoko Suzuki.

It wasn't until 2007, though, that I received my first CD by Shoko. The same friend who had given me the copy of Fever&*Fever gave me Shoko Suzuki Best Collection as a birthday present. At first I was a little puzzled -- I was expecting a bunch of upbeat rock numbers like "Koi no Line Ai no Shape" or "Kireina Namida ga Tarinai yo" (another song Shoko wrote on Fever*Fever), but instead half the record was made up of slower ballads (though I immediately latched onto the stuff from Snapshots and Candy Apple Red). Regardless, I wore the disc out listening to it.

Around this time I decided to pre-order SHO-CO-JOURNEY, knowing it was made up of songs from every part of Shoko's career (with few songs doubled from the other best-of album). Additionally, I decided to order Suzuki Syoko along with SHO-CO-JOURNEY. I liked SHO-CO-JOURNEY well enough, but Suzuki Syoko is when my eyes were truly opened to Shoko's musical genius -- the album resonated with me the way few have. It was then that I decided I had to dig deeper into Shoko Suzuki's back catalog. Since then I've been trying my best to get my hands on Shoko's older CDs (not really an easy thing to do for someone in the U.S.), and it was a godsend when the SHO-CO-SONGS series was announced.

In early 2009, after debating with myself for a while whether or not to do it, I finally took the plunge and decided to make this web site. I had found only one fansite dedicated to Shoko and her music, and none in English (which, admittedly, is understandable). I don't know how many people will see this site -- and if they do, whether they'll be intrigued enough to get into Shoko's music -- but I suppose that doesn't really matter in the long run. If only one person finds this site helpful and worthy, then it will have been worth it.
