Though mostly sticking with Tamio Okuda at this point, Spike is the first Puffy album (not counting solosolo) with several different producers handling various tracks. Musically, this is probably Puffy's loudest album; songs like "Montou Muyou," Ami's "Destruction Pancake," "Umi eto" and "Puffy no Rule" are among the hardest rocking songs in Puffy's catalogue. This isn't a Black Sabbath album, however: there are poppier rock songs like "Boogie-Woogie No. 5" (featuring horn work from the horn section of the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, who Puffy would later team up with for the Hazumu Rhythm single), "Sumire," and "Aoi Ringo"; not to mention harmony-driven pop (Yumi's "Sakura no Hanaga Saku Amai Amai Kisetsu no Uta," "Dec."), surf rock ("Sui Sui"), acoustic pop/rock ("Su-i Su-i"), and dreamy disco-pop ("Cosmic Nagare-boshi," "Pool Nite").
This particular album used to be one of the easiest of Puffy's CDs to buy. However, it too has fallen out of print.

Notes:
- “Destruction Pancake” is (to date) the only song that either Ami or Yumi has written entirely by themselves. It, along with “Su-i Su-i” and “Sui Sui,” are the only songs Puffy have ever been credited with composing or co-composing the music for (not counting the short song snippets on Fever*Fever).
- Ami plays electric guitar on "Su-i Su-i" and "Sui Sui," and plays a trumpet on "Cosmic Nagare-boshi." Yumi plays electric guitar on "Puffy no Rule," and plays saxophone on "Cosmic Nagare-boshi."
