For Puffy's 15th anniversary album, they turned to Michael S. Kawai (percussionist on amiyumi and Jet CD) to produce, the first time a Puffy album has been handled by one producer since Andy Sturmer helmed 59 back in 2004. Another change comes from the fact that, on this album, all of the musical backing is provided by Puffy's live touring band. Also, Ami and Yumi write most of the lyrics on the album -- there's only one song in which they contribute nothing lyrically. Overall Kawai sticks to a basic rock sound, sometimes trending toward a honeycreeper style of grungy guitar rock, though there are a few surprises, most notably "Wake up, Make up," which is a contemporary-sounding synth-pop song featuring rapping from ANI·Bose of the rap group Scha Dara Parr. Elsewhere there are songs contributed by longtime collaborators Tamio Okuda (two songs), Linus of Hollywood, Hiroharu Kinoshita (Puffy's longtime concert bassist) and the Merrymakers. There are some bits of production here and there I don't like, and a couple of fairly weak tracks, but overall the good outweighs the bad.
This record is definitely a step up from Bring It! (which has several really good songs, but overall was too patched-together sounding for my taste), and is a good addition to Puffy's discography.
